Methyl Complete™ provides 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (the active form of folate), pyridoxal-5-phosphate (co-enzyme B-6), methylcobalamin (active B-12), Riboflavin-5-Phosphate, choline, L-Glutathione, Trimethylglycine, and Methionine. All of these nutrients promote the process of methylation. Methylation is the addition of a methyl group to DNA, enzymes, chemicals, proteins, or amino acids, such as homocysteine. Optimal methylation is a vital and necessary process that occurs in various chemical pathways involved in detoxification, cardiovascular, neurological, eye, muscle, bone, and reactive oxygen species form through oxidation. Folic acid, Vitamin B-12, Trimethylglycine, and Choline all serve as donors of methyl groups as part of homocysteine metabolism and methionine methylation pathway. Folic acid has been shown to play an important role in detoxification, nervous system function, healthy breast tissue, fetal development, and the formation of methionine from homocysteine. By providing the active forms of both Folate and B-12, allows for optimal utilization by bypassing metabolic steps to convert it to a bioactive compound. Studies suggest that in combination together, the two molecules support healthy homocysteine levels already within the normal range on their own. Vitamin B-6, provided in Methyl-Complete™ as pyridoxal-5-phosphate, is a coenzyme that is involved in approximately 100 enzymatic reactions and also plays an essential role in the normal functioning of the central nervous system. Normal homocysteine serum level is maintained by the re-methylation of homocysteine to methionine via enzymes that require folic acid, B-12 and by the metabolism of methionine to cysteine, using a vitamin B-6 dependent enzyme.
