Michael Kiwanuka has announced details of his fourth studio album ‘Small Changes‘, his first since 2019’s ‘Kiwanuka’. Co-produced with Danger Mouse and SAULT mastermind Inflo, Small Changes will arrive on 15 November via Polydor Records.Recorded between London and Los Angeles, it's Kiwanuka's first album since becoming a father twice over, and features contributions from Jimmy Jam of Jam & Lewis and bassist-to-the-stars Pino Palladino. The album announcement coincides with the release of two-part single "Lowdown", with "Part i" taking inspiration from Kiwanuka's love of '70s Afro-rock artists like Nigeria's Ofege and Zambian group Amanaz, who he says sound "almost like a '70s African take on The Velvet Underground," adding that the song is intended to be a "sort of throwback to that time in your life when you’re essentially a slacker in retreat from the world’s expectations.” With the string-soaked instrumental "Lowdown (Part ii)", Kiwanuka leans back into the extended guitar solos that he does so well.
