Michell TecnoDec Turntable Bundle
The Michell TecnoDec Turntable with T2i Tonearm is Michell’s entry-level model, but it carries the same precision engineering that defines the brand’s legendary GyroDec. Hand-built in the UK, the TecnoDec combines an impedance-matched platter, an inverted oil-circulating main bearing, and a free-standing motor unit to deliver serious performance at a more accessible price point. The TecnoDec is an unsuspended design that leverages materials and techniques uncommon at this tier, yielding excellent noise control, timing, and detail retrieval from day one. Two Versions Available: Michell has updated the TecnoDec. The current version has black legs, a thicker chassis, and a machined recessed badge to match the current Gyro. The previous version carries the older bubble sticker badge and is discounted. Each version shows its own price and availability above. A note on the photos: the images on this page show the previous version. To see the black legs, the new badge, and the chassis before you commit, call or text 410-239-2020 or email [email protected] and we will walk you through it. Key Features of the Michell TecnoDec Turntable T2i (Improved) Tonearm & UniCover Included: This bundle includes the T2i (Improved) tonearm for precise tracking and the UniCover for added protection. Sorbothane Isolation Feet: Inserts decouple the chassis from the supporting surface, reducing structure-borne vibration and sharpening image focus. Impedance-Matched Platter: A vibration-damping material chosen for its acoustic affinity to vinyl produces a neutral, uncolored presentation. Precision Free-Standing Motor: An aircraft-grade aluminum housing isolates the motor from the chassis so rotational energy reaches the platter, not the cartridge. Inverted Oil-Circulating Main Bearing: Continuous lubrication keeps friction vanishingly low and rotation remarkably quiet for cleaner transients and pitch stability. Pure Sorbothane Foot Inserts Michell uses Sorbothane inserts in the TecnoDec’s feet for a very specific reason: isolation that actually works in real rooms. These inserts help decouple the turntable from structural vibration coming up through racks, floors, or furniture. It is not a tuning gimmick. It is about keeping external energy out of the system so the platter and bearing can do their job without interference. What does the Impedance-Matched Plater Do? The TecnoDec platter is made from a material chosen to closely match the mechanical and acoustic properties of vinyl itself. The goal here is neutrality. By impedance matching the platter to the record, unwanted resonances are absorbed rather than reflected back into the groove. What you hear is cleaner transients, better low level detail, and a more relaxed presentation that never sounds overdamped or artificial. Free Standing Motor Unit The motor on the TecnoDec is completely separate from the main chassis, and that matters more than most people realize. Machined from a solid billet of aircraft grade aluminum, the motor housing is designed to control and contain vibration at the source. When the turntable is running, the only physical connection between the motor and the platter is the drive belt itself. This dramatically reduces the chance of motor noise reaching the bearing or platter and is one of the reasons the TecnoDec consistently outperforms similarly priced decks. Inverted Oil Circulating Main Bearing Michell’s inverted main bearing design places the point of rotation at the top of the bearing rather than the bottom, which allows the entire bearing assembly to be continuously lubricated while the platter spins. A modified Archimedean screw machined into the bearing bore draws oil upward from a reservoir at the base to the thrust ball at the top, then returns it through a waste channel in the spindle. The result is full lubrication of all precision surfaces during operation, reduced friction, and virtually no mechanical noise being introduced into playback. It is an elegant solution that prioritizes longevity, stability, and silence. What’s Included with Your Michell TecnoDec Michell Unicover Michell Record Clamp Factory-mounted T2i tonearm if selected at time of purchase Listening Room Cartridge Options, Installed and Aligned In addition to the standard TecnoDec configuration, The Listening Room offers a curated selection of cartridges that we install, align, and verify before shipment. These cartridges are chosen based on real-world compatibility with the TecnoDec’s bearing system, platter behavior, and overall tonal balance. Each option is mounted and aligned by our team so the table arrives ready to play. Goldring E3 Moving Magnet CartridgeThe Goldring E3 uses an aluminum cantilever and elliptical stylus to deliver a balanced, low-distortion presentation with strong tracking ability. It offers excellent tonal neutrality and works well with the TecnoDec’s controlled, vibration-damped design. Goldring E4 Moving Magnet CartridgeThe E4 builds on the E3 with a nude elliptical stylus, improving detail retrieval, transient clarity, and channel separation. This option is well suited for listeners who want greater resolution while maintaining a smooth, musical presentation. Rega Nd5 Moving Magnet CartridgeThe Rega Nd5 emphasizes speed, timing, and midrange coherence. Its lightweight design and strong rhythmic performance complement the TecnoDec’s low-noise bearing and free-standing motor architecture. Rega Nd7 Moving Magnet CartridgeThe Nd7 offers higher resolution and improved stylus profile for enhanced detail and separation. It is the most revealing cartridge option we offer for the TecnoDec and pairs well with systems focused on transparency and low-level information.
