The Middle Way Meditation Instructions Mipham Rinpoche, a 19th century Tibetan scholar and practitioner, gives a definite explanation mediation of the Middle-way Instructions. For a few years of his life he actually stayed at the Ninth Thrangu Rinpoche's monastery in Tibet where he was supplied with materials for his prolific writing. One of Mipham Rinpoche's encyclopedic works on Buddhism was the Gateway to Knowledge and it is from this text that the Middle-way Instructions came from. In this exposition Mipham explains the meditation techniques for developing compassion and how to expand compassion into the aspiration of bodhichitta. Bodhichitta is the desire to all sentient beings reach enlightenment. Once one has developed this clarity of vision enlightened wisdom begins to manifest. This text gives a detailed explanation of how one meditates to develop this wisdom. I suggest this book to beginners because it covers in a very practical manner how one deals with common problems in meditation––having strong thought continuously returning, becoming very drowsy, how to deal with very angry thoughts, the nine stages of placing one’s mind and so on.
