Sarah Cavender has been hand-forming wire cloth in her Oxford, Alabama studio for decades, bending and shaping metal mesh into sculptural forms that move and catch light the way fabric does — but with the permanence and presence of metal. Her technique is distinctive and essentially unreplicable by machine: each piece of brass wire cloth is shaped by hand. The effect is liquid, almost kinetic — a quality that flat metal simply cannot achieve. These hoops are modest in scale and extraordinary in texture. At one inch in diameter, they sit close to the face with an understated authority — the kind of earring that reads as effortless from across a room but rewards a closer look with something genuinely unexpected. Hand-formed brass Milanese mesh is black oxidized then hand-painted with blue lacquer, and the mesh construction keeps them remarkably light at 4 grams per earring. Ear wires are hypoallergenic and nickel-free, so sensitive skin is never a concern. The kind of piece that moves when you move — catching and releasing light with every small turn of the head, never static, never loud, always alive.
