Mirages are naturally occurring optical illusions that one can see from far away, but disappear as you approach. I created this scarf to have a similar optical illusion effect by pairing two yarns that had contrasting bases, but similar speckles. The mosaic work is easy to see from a distance, but as you get closer it almost blends into the scarf. You can chose highly contrasting yarns to allow the colorwork to shine through, or more similar yarns to create subtle colorwork.Sizes:One Size. 10” (25.5 cm) wide and 71” (180 cm) long, measured after a light blockingYarn: (MC) Baah Yarn “La Jolla” (100% Superwash Merino), Fingering weight, 400 yds (366 m), 4 oz (115 g) in January ‘19 Approx. 370 yds (338 m), 3.7 oz (105 g) required (CC) Hedgehog Fibers, “Sock” (90% Superwash Merino, 10% Nylon), Fingering weight, 437 yds (400 m), 3.5 oz (100 g) in Zephyr Approx 385 yds (352 m), 3.1 oz (88 g) required Or similar weight yarn to achieve gaugeNeedles:US5 (3.75 mm) needles or size to obtain gaugeNotions:Tapestry needleStitch markers (4)Gauge:24 stitches and 36 rows = 4” /10 cm in garter stitch.
