Eau de Cologne A tender caress of cologne is an intriguing concept, but that is what we have in Miko from Aromag courtesy of perfumer Florian Gallo. When considering the nature of colognes, one of the oldest styles of perfume thanks to its citric freshness and evaporation creating a cooling effect, we automatically think of the diversity of the citrus family. From bitter bergamot and tangy lime to the exotic perfume of yuzu and Buddha's Hand, each fruit adds unique textural and flavour profiles to compositions. One of the associated myths of citrus perfumes is their fleeting nature, the molecules are small and generally part of top notes, they seem to shift off skin quickly. And yes they can seem ephemeral but that is an essential part of their nature. To energise, refresh and dazzle. Miko is a sparkling concoction of addictive citrus notes, with petitgrain, bitter orange, bergamot, lemon, lime, orange, mandarine and a rub of marjoram in the solar-lit top notes and neroli and indolic orange blossom in the heady heart. The giddy swathe of citrus runs a gamut from bitter-green and oozing with juice to tangy sweetness and floral musks. The key to Miko is the two creamy indolic notes of orange blossom and jasmine sambac, both rich with hot skin, erotic radiance and a genuine sense of unfurling petals. They reek of hazy sun, flesh half in, half out of shade. The modern musk notes in the base of Miko are smooth and delicious, exalting cabreuva wood, patchouli and rooty green vetiver up through the citrus notes, ensuring harmony and lasting clarity to a beautifully modern riff of the classic citrus cologne.
