Quick Facts: Style: Semi-Sweet Red | Origin: Kakheti, Georgia | Varietal: 100% Ojaleshi | Producer: Mildiani Family Winery | Size: 500ml Production & Heritage Mildiani Family Winery is rooted in the Kakheti region of eastern Georgia, one of the world's oldest winemaking territories with an unbroken viticultural tradition spanning roughly 8,000 years. The winery focuses on indigenous Georgian grape varieties, and Ojaleshi stands among the rarest of these — a red varietal historically grown in the Lechkhumi and Racha sub-regions of western Georgia, prized for its natural balance of sugar and acidity. Traditional winemaking methods guide this bottling, allowing the grape's inherent personality to emerge without heavy-handed intervention. Tasting Notes Aroma: The nose opens with bright scents of ripe red berries — fresh cherry and raspberry lead — before giving way to a delicate floral nuance. A subtle warmth sits beneath the fruit, hinting at the palate to come. Taste: The entry is light-bodied and juicy, delivering fresh cherry and raspberry flavors immediately. Mid-palate, a natural and well-integrated sweetness emerges, matched harmoniously by lively acidity that prevents any cloying quality. A whisper of warming spice rounds out the profile, adding dimension without weight. Finish: Smooth and pleasantly fruity, the finish leaves a refreshing, gentle warmth on the palate. Lingering berry notes fade gradually, with soft tannins providing just enough structure to close cleanly. How to Drink Mildiani Ojaleshi This wine shows its best character slightly chilled, between 14–16°C (57–61°F), served in a standard red wine glass to concentrate the floral and berry aromatics. Its semi-sweet profile also makes it a surprisingly versatile ingredient in wine-based drinks. Red Wine Sangria: The natural berry sweetness and balanced acidity provide an ideal base, reducing the need for added sugar. Kalimotxo (Red Wine & Cola): The wine's fruit-forward sweetness plays well against the bitterness of cola for a simple, refreshing long drink. Mulled Wine: Warming spice notes in the wine harmonize naturally with cinnamon, clove, and citrus peel, creating a richer result than dry reds typically offer. Best For Introducing someone to the world of Georgian indigenous grape wines After-dinner sipping alongside a cheese or dessert course Gifting a wine enthusiast who values rare grape varietals over mainstream labels Hosting a Georgian supra-style dinner or themed tasting evening Frequently Asked Questions What does Mildiani Ojaleshi taste like? It delivers fresh cherry and raspberry flavors with a naturally balanced sweetness, bright acidity, and a whisper of warming spice. The overall impression is fruity, elegant, and smooth with soft tannins. How does Mildiani Ojaleshi compare to Kindzmarauli? Both are semi-sweet Georgian reds, but Kindzmarauli is made from the Saperavi grape and tends toward darker fruit, fuller body, and heavier tannins. Mildiani Ojaleshi, made from the rarer Ojaleshi grape, leans lighter in body with brighter red-berry fruit and more prominent floral character. Is Mildiani Ojaleshi good for beginners? Yes — its approachable semi-sweet profile and light body make it an accessible entry point for those new to red wine or unfamiliar with Georgian winemaking. The balanced sweetness and fruit-forward character appeal broadly without demanding a seasoned palate. Where is Mildiani Ojaleshi made? It is produced by Mildiani Family Winery in the Kakheti region of eastern Georgia, the country's most prominent winemaking zone. The Ojaleshi grape itself originates from the Lechkhumi and Racha areas of western Georgia. What foods pair well with Mildiani Ojaleshi? Try it with mild blue cheeses like Gorgonzola dolce, where the wine's sweetness counters the salt. Roasted duck breast benefits from the berry-fruit contrast, while Georgian churchkhela (walnut-and-grape confections) echo the wine's native terroir. Dark chocolate desserts with 60–70% cacao create a complementary bittersweet pairing, and spice-forward dishes like Moroccan tagine find balance against the wine's residual sugar. What sizes does Mildiani Ojaleshi come in? This expression is commonly available in a 500ml bottle, which is the standard format for many Georgian semi-sweet wines. Is Mildiani Ojaleshi worth the price? It positions as an accessible, entry-to-mid-level expression within the Georgian wine category, delivering genuine varietal distinction and regional authenticity at a price point well below most European semi-sweet wines of comparable quality. Why Mildiani Ojaleshi? The strongest case for this wine is the grape itself: Ojaleshi is one of Georgia's rarest indigenous varietals, and finding a well-made bottling at this price tier is uncommon outside the Caucasus. Mildiani's 4.4 Vivino rating reflects consistent consumer satisfaction with the balance of natural sweetness, acidity, and fruit purity. The 500ml format suits the semi-sweet style well, offering enough for two to share without committing to a full bottle. For anyone exploring Georgian wine beyond the ubiquitous Saperavi or Kindzmarauli, this bottling provides a genuinely distinctive alternative rooted in centuries of regional winemaking tradition.
