Size 8 hook. We prefer this pattern to the typical slumpbuster because more of the zonker is exposed to give it a free flowing movement in the water. For this reason we find this fly to be very versatile - it works well stripped or dead drifted. The Mini Leech Tungsten is a compact weighted leech pattern for trout that want movement without a large streamer profile. The tungsten weight helps it sink into deeper runs and stillwater edges, while the smaller body keeps the presentation subtle and easy to eat. This fly works well when trout are feeding on leeches, small baitfish, or general moving prey but are not willing to chase an oversized streamer. It is a good option in colder water, slower pools, lake margins, and pressured areas where a full size streamer may be too much. Fish it with slow strips, short twitches, pauses, or a dead drift swing. It can also work as a larger anchor style fly in a nymph rig when you want weight, movement, and a natural dark profile.
