Smells like you opened all the windows in January, but warmer. Trim the wick to ¼ inch before each burn. Let the wax pool reach the edges on the first light—takes about 2 hours—so it burns evenly every time after. Don't blow them out. Use a wick dipper or just wave your hand over the flame.
