When wired for 24v, you'll have 90 lbs of max thrust on tap which provides enough power for boats weighing up to 4,500 lbs. When wired for 36v, you'll have 115 lbs of max thrust which provides enough power for boats weighing up to 10,000 lbs. However, fishing conditions, hull design/shape and intended use all have a significant impact on calculating the appropriate amount of thrust for your boat. How It's Unique The Riptide Terrova QUEST is a more advanced and powerful version of the "brushed" (aka "permanent magnet") Riptide Terrova lineup which has been Minn Kota's most popular line of saltwater trolling motors for many years. The most significant difference between the Riptide Terrova and the Riptide Terrova QUEST is the actual motor itself. The Riptide Terrova is available with 55 lbs thrust (12v), 80 lbs thrust (24v) and 112 lbs thrust (36v). The Riptide Terrova QUEST motor is a brushless "dual voltage" (24v/36v) motor. Dual voltage motors offer you a choice between wiring the motor for 24v which produces 90 lbs max thrust OR 36v which produces 115 lbs. of max thrust. Brushless motors such as the QUEST series motors are quieter, more efficient and more powerful than traditional permanent magnet motors. Brushless motors also produce less friction and heat when running which will typically prolong the lifespan of the motor. The Riptide Terrova QUEST also has a unique "Lift Assist" mechanism, a model with 100" shaft, integrated Heading Sensor and is available in white and black color schemes. If perhaps you do not need brushless technology, higher available thrust and a 100" shaft length or require a 12v 55 lbs thrust motor, we still highly recommend the less expensive Riptide Terrova 55/80/112 brushed motors. Ideally, it's best to have access to the underside of the mounting platform in order to secure and fasten the bolting hardware. Due to the weight and torque of the Riptide Terrova QUEST motors, deck reinforcement may be required. If reinforcement is necessary, Minn Kota makes a Deck Reinforcement Kit or you can have a qualified fabricator install an alternative. Depending on the thrust requirements of your boat and fishing conditions you can wire this motor for 24v or 36v. When wired to 2 x 12v deep cycle batteries (24v), the Riptide Terrova QUEST will provide up to 90 lbs max thrust. When wired to 3 x 12v deep cycle batteries, this motor will provide up to 115 lbs max thrust. Motor Wiring Details: The Riptide Terrova QUEST can be wired directly to the batteries or it can be used in conjunction with a plug and receptacle for a cleaner, more professional installation. If using a quick release bracket, a plug and receptacle like the Minn Kota MKR-28 will allow you to plug and unplug the motor for easy removal and re-mounting. To protect your motor from control board damage installing a 60amp circuit breaker is highly recommended. Shielded, marine grade wiring should be used to connect the motor to the power source (aka batteries!). To determine the appropriate gauge wiring download this circuit breaker and wiring table. If you are using lead acid or AGM batteries, they must be wired "in series" to create the proper voltage for this motor. Power Lead Length: Two 5' power leads (red and black) ending in terminal rings (aka lugs). Minn Kota motors do not come from the factory with trolling motor power plugs. A new power plug can be crimped or heat shrunk onto the power leads; make sure to have a matching receptacle installed in the hull. If you are replacing an existing motor that has a plug already installed, you can transfer it to the new motor's power leads. NOTE: Although most power plugs and receptacles are universally compatible regardless of voltage, make sure that they are rated at 60amps or more.
