Based on the charger and the cable quality the instrument is fully charged in 4-8 hours. Battery Life The battery life with the latest firmware is 24 hrs. Main Features The main platform of the variometer runs Linux so that further development on the device to be facile. This feature also enables us or anyone else who wants to contribute or to modify his/her instrument to easily add new features. FULL-SIZE USB ports add a lot of hardware expandability possibility to the device, preflight or in-flight, without the need to use a fragile micro USB port. The 4.4" screen readability of the device is incredible. Literary we spared no expenses on this part of the instrument. No compromise. You can keep the instrument with the sun directly reflecting into your eyes and still be able to read from it. Also, the refresh rate of the screen is pretty good at 20 fps together with a wide range of working temperatures. The sensor system on the device consists of two separate submodules. One is the GPS system comprising of a high precision Ublox M8N receiver commonly used on drones because of its performances together with a high sensitivity patch antenna. The second sub-module is the real-time pressure and sensor fusion system responsible for the vertical speed measurement, filtering and approximation by sensor fusion.HARDWARE Alwinner A20 dual-core microprocessor running at ~1GHz/core. Ublox M8N GPS receiver with the ceramic patch antenna. High precision pressure sensor + accelerometer, gyroscope and magnetometer for instant vario function. Possibility to upgrade to Bluetooth and WIFI options true internal USB ports. External full-size USB for IO expansion and data synchronisation on any USB memory stick. The device can also act as a charger even when the variometer is turned off. 6800 mAh battery for extended flight times. 240x320 monochrome LCD with high framerate and extremely good sunlight readability. Screen diagonal size is 4.4", 89.6 × 67.2mm (true viewing area) To see more features of MipFly check the software page. VARIOQT ApplicationVarioQt is the backbone application for the MipFly vario. It is written in C++ with the help of the QT framework and, most importantly, it will be released under an open source license upon the official product launch. Current development is done using the feedback provided by the pilots flying the demo units and by the pilots who already bought the limited edition development kits.GENERAL INTERFACE FEATURES User-definable pages Configurable graphical elements (size, position, zoom level etc.) Multilingual interface Customizable audio alerts Black on white or white on the black user interface UNDER DEVELOPMENT - Grandpa style (simple mode, big widgets) user interface for easy usage by casual pilots VARIOMETER/ALTIMETER FEATURES Dual high precision pressure sensor interlaced reading for high precision and high rate of response to the vertical speed Selectable instant vario function using the accelerometer Configurable vario digital filter and integration values for analogue and digital (average) vario Fully configurable Vario Sound (frequency, increments, frequency/vertical speed relation,...) Square wave or sine wave tone Multiple independent altimeters (QNH, GPS, AGL, the difference from takeoff etc.) Worldwide altitude data for AGL calculation MAPS & 3D AIRSPACE Detailed maps representing woods, settlements + names and water surfaces for better orientation Two levels of zoom for graphical maps Compatible with Open Air format (copy required airspace to SD and select it from the menu) Graphical representation of the airspace map and name of violated airspace Configurable warning distances for vertical and horizontal airspace distance A list containing near and violated airspaces (AGL defined airspaces are considered violated based only on horizontal positioning) CROSS COUNTRY FEATURES Extremely precise and prompt wind algorithm (no spiralling required) Intuitive and large wind direction indication Distance and direction to last thermal The intuitive thermal graph for centring aid Distance and angle from takeoff Glide ratio indicator MEMORY FEATURES 3D flight logger IGC format Practically more memory for flights that anyone can use in a lifetime
