The vineyard's red volcanic soil provides a distinctive terroir ideally suited to Mediterranean grape varieties, and the winery has drawn from this same site for over a decade. Recent vintages blend 78% Grenache with 22% Syrah, though earlier releases included Mourvèdre in the mix. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at relatively low temperatures over approximately ten days, with a small percentage of whole clusters added to the bottom of each tank to boost fruity aromatics. Malolactic fermentation finishes in barrel, and the wine ages for ten months in oak before bottling.Tasting NotesAroma: The nose opens with jammy strawberry and dried cherry before moving into ripe plum and cranberry. A second layer reveals dried rose petals, potpourri, and subtle Herbes de Provence–like herbaceousness.Taste: The entry is juicy and fruit-forward, delivering mouthfuls of red and dark berry fruit without the heavy astringency common to many California GSM blends. Mid-palate, the wine shifts toward earthy, smoky tones with a thread of black pepper. Acidity is focused and lively, keeping the generous fruit in check and lending the wine a clean, food-friendly structure.Finish: The finish is long and firm, with lingering strawberry preserve and a gentle grip of fine tannin. A whisper of dried herbs and warm spice carries through the close. How to Drink Cuvée SashaThis wine drinks beautifully at cellar temperature (60–65°F) with no decanting required, though 20–30 minutes of air can open the aromatics further. It is built as a dinner wine first and foremost. For a simple Grenache Spritz, a short pour over ice with a splash of sparkling water and a strip of orange peel makes a refreshing warm-weather aperitif. Its peppery fruit integrates well into a glass of Sangria, where the strawberry and plum notes amplify seasonal stone fruits. And for a lighter red wine cocktail, try it in a Kalimotxo (red wine and cola over ice), where the wine's natural acidity and berry concentration balance the sweetness.Best For Weeknight dinners where an approachable, fruit-driven red elevates the meal without overpowering it Introducing Rhône-style blends to friends more familiar with Pinot Noir or Zinfandel Gifting to a wine enthusiast who appreciates California's emerging Grenache scene Pairing experiments at a Mediterranean-themed dinner party Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat does Cuvée Sasha taste like?
