The vertical frame is conceived in the manner of a small architectural retable, with finely mod elled putti at the crest, pierced Baroque-inspired side ornament, and a sculpted mascaron at the base. This bearded mask, drawn from classical and Renaissance architectural tradition, was historically used as a protective motif and visual anchor, grounding the composition. The original bevelled mirror plate is set within a richly patinated structure.
