The Model WL-1200 is a wireless vortex flow meter that replaces our WM-1000. It is easier to use, with equal or better range, and is less expensive. It consists of a flow sensor and our new UMI-200 wireless universal meter interface, which connects via short wires to the irrigation controller. To the controller the interface looks like a wired flow meter. The mechanical parts of the WL-1200 are identical to those of the WM-1000. In particular, it uses the same vortex technology with no rotating parts, and will fit in the same space as the WM-1000 or the 1004-EX. The sensor itself should be installed above ground, since soil (particularly wet soil) impedes radio transmissions, although some customers have also reported success with below-ground installations. We use our own proprietary 900 MHz ISM band protocol for better range than Bluetooth or WiFi. Line of sight transmission through a single exterior wall was tested to more than 1/2 mile range. Now with Merge Mode! Use two sensors with one controller for cases where two watering areas are separated with individual mainlines, but all the valves are controlled by one controller. The single UMI-200 merges flow signals from both sensors. The customer should first test the radio communications by placing the meter near its intended final location, with the UMI-200 interface connected to the controller. If communication fails, we offer a refund, minus shipping and a small restocking charge. The UMI-200 interface is not weatherproof and must be installed indoors or in a suitable enclosure. It is powered by 24 VAC from the controller or an optional 5VDC adapter. The UMI-200 allows programming of the output signal, from a default frequency pulse signal (with customizable K-factor and offset) to several pulse-per-gallon type scaled outputs (as desired by several Hunter controllers). This makes it compatible with almost any controller with a flow meter input. It also displays radio strength information, and has a special mode that allows the UMI-200 to listen for only a specific meter serial number in case there are multiple WL-1200 meters in a neighborhood that would otherwise interfere. Unlike the WM-1000, the WL-1200 does not use frequency-hopping spread spectrum radio technology. Its fixed-frequency implementation should be fine for most applications. If you have a special situation where you're concerned about interference from other devices in the 915 MHz band, get the WM-1000.
