CANCELLATIONS! TWO SPOTS AVAILABLE! Working in High Relief: Make Your Own Modular Starter Kit In this workshop, Georgia will introduce a new slant to her Modular Casting technique! You will be working with high relief positive (“outie”) forms – producing a kit of modular geometric silicone components which can be used to create relief panels and even three-dimensional pieces. This five-day class operates in reverse. Everyone will start with plaster investment molds made by Georgia in advance. You’ll use these to explore how different glass colors and formats – powders, sheet and billet – can be used to change the visual impact of the final cast forms. Using pre-cast molds will mean these can be filled and fired early in the course, so they’re ready to demold by the last day. (These high relief pieces require a longer firing schedule). For the rest of the course, you’ll then focus on model and moldmaking. You’ll work on developing your own kit of geometric modular parts – so you can make an investment plaster mold by the end of the course (and once you’re back in your own studio space). You’ll use both 3D printed and collaged mat board models to cast a small family of silicone modules, each with their own integrated bolt. These will attach to a separate silicone base, allowing you to rearrange the parts each time you make an investment mold. You’ll also learn how to develop your own bases – in cardboard and silicone – extending the possibilities for using your kit after class. All glass and materials are included.
