"Monarchs" is a nod to the patterns and endurance of Monarch Butterflies. This print adds a bold and bright light to any room. Monarch chrysalises lined the fence of Carol’s home i n New Orleans, and she would watch them as they emerged one by one in late spring before they flew across the Gulf of Mexico. This piece was painted during their chrysalis phase. The original piece was painted in 2021 at 30"x40" as part of the “Under the Trees” series. Under the Trees is a place and a state of being. It’s freeing, playful, and uninhibited. This series was inspired by small moments with Carol's family under the gorgeous live oaks that weave this city together.
