Overview The Mongrel 461 ZipSider Safety Boot with Scuff Cap is one of Mongrel’s best-sellers in Australia, acclaimed for its durability and comfort on the job — and now a firm favourite here in the UK. A lightweight, lower-cut side-zip work boot in premium full-grain leather, it’s built with a moulded PU scuff cap for extra protection and long-lasting wear, and a convenient zip side that makes it quick and easy to get on and off. A 200J steel toe cap delivers the protection, while a slip-, oil- and fat-resistant TPU outsole (heat resistant to 130°C) gives dependable grip. The 461 is also electrical-hazard resistant, making it a strong choice for electricians and anyone working around live circuits. Inside, an OrthoTec® Air footbed with anatomical arch support and a temperature-regulating lining keep you comfortable through long shifts, and Coats Nylbond® stitching keeps it all together. It’s the everyday all-rounder of the Mongrel zip-sided range — perfect for construction workers, warehouse operatives, engineers and general trades from morning to sundown. FAQs What’s the difference between the Mongrel 461 and 561?Both are Australian-made steel-toe side-zip safety boots. The 461 is lower-cut, lighter and a little cheaper, with a TPU outsole and electrical-hazard resistance — a great everyday all-rounder. The 561 is higher-cut and heavier-duty, with a Vibram® outsole rated to 300°C — built for heat and metalwork. Choose the 461 for all-round comfort, the 561 for high-heat trades. Are the 461 boots suitable for electricians?Yes. The 461 is electrical-hazard resistant and antistatic, which makes it a popular choice for electricians and those working around live circuits. As with any PPE, always match your footwear to your specific workplace risk assessment and any additional electrical standards your job requires. What does the S1 safety rating mean?Under EN ISO 20345, S1 means the boot has a 200J toe cap, antistatic protection, an energy-absorbing heel and a fuel/oil-resistant outsole. The 461 adds a scuff cap (SC) and top-grade SRC slip resistance. Note S1 boots are not water-resistant and don’t include a penetration-resistant midsole — if you need those, choose an S3-rated boot. What’s the scuff cap for?The moulded PU scuff cap is an extra layer of protection over the toe area. It guards against the daily abrasion of kneeling, climbing and general site work, extending the life of the boot in the area that usually wears first. Do the boots stay secure with a side zip?Yes. Lace the boot once for your ideal fit, then use the YKK side zip to get on and off quickly each day. No re-lacing, and nothing to snag around machinery. Are Mongrel boots true to size?Mongrel boots generally fit true to size in UK sizing, with half sizes through the mid-range. If you’re between sizes or wear thick socks, size up to the next half size. We offer free exchanges if the fit isn’t right. Where are Mongrel boots made?Mongrel Boots are proudly made in Australia and have been since 1930, using premium full-grain leather and quality components. Do you offer next day delivery?Yes.
