This painting shows Lenin Square in my hometown, Dzerzhinsk, with the Palace of Pioneers behind it. I spent years in its clubs — especially Astronomy — where we pointed telescopes skyward but ended up staring at Lenin's bird-stained head. Monuments like his were everywhere: in textbooks, on classroom walls, in street names. Only later did I learn about the Red Terror he unleashed. The “kind” Lenin, with his creased eyes, was in fact brutal. I turned his head into a black vortex. His monuments don’t honour socialism — they mark a system that demanded, and still demands, human sacrifice. Show more
