Their strength is obvious, and the exhilaration of freedom as they run is evident, but it's often their quietness, when they feel safe with someone, that captures our attention and connection. As I painted this Appaloosa, I wasn't interested in creating just a portrait. I wanted to capture a presence - a calm confidence that doesn't need to prove itself. The layered marks and textures beneath the paint hint at the stories we all carry. Some are visible, while others remain just beneath the surface. Yet through it all, there can be a steadiness that holds us. For me, this painting is a reminder that true strength is often gentle, patient, and quietly enduring.
