This carpet was knotted in a Moroccan city workshop, to order, in the medallion tradition of formal urban weaving - a different lineage to the mountain rug. Decades have faded the wool to a warm amber and settled the dye into a depth new wool cannot fake. Hexagonal medallions anchor the field, held within a lattice of diamonds and framed by a wide, patterned border. The wear at its edges is its own kind of evidence: a piece that has been walked on and lived with, in a room somewhere, long before it reached us.
