This rug was hand-woven in Boujad, on the plains between Marrakech and Casablanca - a lowland weaving tradition distinct from the Atlas villages, known for its saturated colour rat her than the mountain rug's restraint. The field runs from deep wine to bright red, a shift the weaver has let happen rather than corrected. A column of diamond medallions runs the length of the rug, each one outlined in cream and packed with pink, teal and orange; smaller diamonds gather at the base like an afterthought that became a decision. Loose, scattered marks - a cross, an hourglass - sit in the field with no attempt at symmetry. One of a kind. Woven by a single weaver, on a single loom.
