This Beni Ourain was hand-woven in the High Atlas, by an Amazigh weaver working on a vertical wooden loom in the Berber knot. The material is undyed sheep wool, left in its natural cream. Rather than the diamond grid the region is best known for, the marks here are scattered - small dashes of brown and dusky pink, set out in loose, drifting rows that never quite line up. The effect reads more like scatter than grid, a looser hand than the classic pattern allows. One of a kind. Woven by a single weaver, on a single loom.
