This Beni Ourain was hand-woven in the High Atlas, by an Amazigh weaver working on a vertical wooden loom in the Berber knot. The material is undyed sheep wool, left in its natural cream. The colours are the wool itself against a deep charcoal line - a diamond lattice running the full length of the rug, framed on both edges by a zigzag border that holds the whole pattern in place. The lattice loosens slightly as it travels down the piece, each diamond a little different from the one before it - the record of a hand working without a printed guide. One of a kind.
