This rug was hand-woven in the Atlas Mountains, by an Amazigh weaver working on a vertical wooden loom in the Berber knot. The material is undyed sheep wool, its cream held bare ac ross most of the field. The colour is drawn rather than dyed into pattern - a wandering line in indigo, another in brick-red - building loose diamonds, a house, a zigzag, that never repeat and never quite align. This is the newer register of the tradition: the same knot, the same loom, but a weaver working freehand rather than to an inherited grid. One of a kind. Woven by a single weaver, on a single loom.
