William Morris (1834–1896) was one of the most influential figures of the nineteenth century: a designer, poet, publisher and campaigner. The firm he founded in 1861 with friends from the Pre-Raphaelites, which became Morris & Co. in 1875, grew into an icon of the Arts & Crafts movement, and its designs, rooted in nature and hand-craftsmanship, are still produced today under licence by Sanderson.
