From one of the oldest estate in the Mosel, with a history going all the way back to the 9th century, comes this lively dry Riesling from renowned producer Immich-Batterieberg buzz ing with energy. Famous for its ultra-traditional, low-interventionist approach to Riesling, Immich-Batterieberg has made a name for itself in the German wine scene, and this wine comes from their standout single vineyard Zeppwingert located on the incredibly steep slopes above the Einkirch on the river Mosel. Expect ripe citrus of lime and grapefruit, white peach, apricot, quince and thyme, with an amazingly long finish that unfurls with incredible depth. The Mosel is a fascinating wine region. Located at the northernmost limits of what grape-growing can be sustained at, the vines only survive by being planted on steep, southerly facing slopes along the river, which not only allows them to receive more direct sunlight hours in the summertime, but also utilizes the suns reflection off the river to double the amount of light the vines would normally receive. It is only because of this ingenious method of farming that the grapes are able to achieve the ripeness required for fine winemaking, and the Mosel is famous for producing Riesling that are almost electric in their acidity—reminding me of the mouth-watering quality of lemonade.
