Motherwort is a striking herbaceous perennial in the mint family, long valued in herbal traditions for its support of heart health, female reproductive balance, and digestive function. Reaching up to 3m tall, the sturdy, prickly stems form a strong summer hedge that not only attracts pollinators with its small pink flowers, but also helps deter deer and other animals from garden beds. This plant is especially well-suited to naturalised herb gardens or the back border of ornamental plots. Where Can You Grow Motherwort? Ideal for Zones 4-9, Motherwort grows well in full sun to part shade and prefers well-drained, moderately fertile soil. It tolerates poor soils and self-seeds readily once established.
