MOZA R12 V2 Wheelbase
MOZA R12 V2 wheelbase The R12 V2 is MOZA’s 12Nm direct drive wheelbase, sitting between the R9 V3 and the higher torque Ultra bases in the MOZA Racing range. Direct drive means the wheel mounts straight to the motor shaft, with no belt to stretch and no gear train in between, so what the car is doing reaches your hands without being smoothed out on the way. Twelve newton metres is enough to load up through a long corner and to go light the moment the front tyres give up, which is the cue most drivers actually steer by. It suits someone moving off a belt or gear wheel who wants headroom to grow into rather than a base they replace in a year. This page is the wheelbase on its own. If you need a wheel as well, the R12 V2 bundle pairs it with your choice of MOZA rim, and the CRP2 pedal bundle adds load cell pedals. For a lower torque tier, see the MOZA R9 V3 wheelbase or the wider direct drive wheelbases range. Key features 12Nm of peak torque from a direct drive servo motor 21-bit encoder resolving 2,097,152 steps per revolution 1000Hz USB refresh rate 216W maximum power Aviation grade aluminium alloy housing Carbon fibre wrapped rotor for thermal management Intelligent temperature control for long sessions NexGen 4.0 force feedback with iRacing 360Hz support MOZA quick release for fast wheel changes Tuning and firmware through MOZA Pit House 12Nm from a direct drive servo motor The motor drives the wheel shaft directly. There is no belt to stretch and no gear train to add backlash, so the forces the game calculates are the forces that reach you, at full strength and in the order they happened. Peak torque is 12Nm and maximum power is 216W. In practice that is enough to hold a steady weight through a long sweeper, to snap back when the rear steps out, and to go vague as the front washes wide. Running it below maximum is normal: most drivers set strength well under the ceiling and use the headroom for the moments that need it. A 21-bit encoder and a 1000Hz connection The encoder reads wheel position to 21 bits, which is 2,097,152 steps in a single rotation, and the base reports to the PC at 1000Hz. Small inputs register as small inputs rather than being rounded away, and surface texture arrives as texture rather than one blunt rumble. MOZA’s NexGen 4.0 force feedback algorithm drives it, and iRacing 360Hz mode is supported for titles that can use it. Aluminium housing and thermal management The housing is aviation grade aluminium alloy, and the rotor is wrapped in carbon fibre, which MOZA uses to cut eddy current losses and move heat out of the motor. Intelligent temperature control keeps the base inside its working range instead of quietly giving back torque as a session runs long. The unit measures 226 x 157 x 124mm and weighs 7.5kg. It mounts through four bottom bolts or an optional side bracket, and fits the sim racing cockpits we stock along with most aluminium profile rigs. A table clamp is available as an option, though at this torque a rigid rig will give you more of what you paid for. Setting it up with MOZA Pit House Connect the base to a PC, install MOZA Pit House and run the calibration once. Force feedback strength, damping, rotation limits and the rest of the settings live in the same software, and firmware updates go through it as well. Any MOZA wheel fits directly through the quick release. Third party rims need the MOZA Universal Hub Kit. Pedals are separate: our sim racing pedals range covers the options. Our take “Twelve newton metres is the point where most people stop upgrading. The R9 is plenty for a lot of drivers and the Ultra bases are more than most rigs can hold still, so the R12 tends to be the one that stays. The caveat is what you bolt it to. At this torque a desk clamp will flex, and flex reads as mush rather than detail, so I would sort the rig out before spending anything more on torque.” Blake Sterling, CEO & Founder, Gamer Gear Direct MOZA R12 V2 frequently asked questions What comes in the box? The wheelbase, power supply, power cord, data cable, screw kit, dust bag, quick start guide and warranty card. No wheel and no pedals. If you need a wheel as well, the R12 V2 bundle pairs this base with your choice of MOZA rim. Does the R12 V2 work on Xbox? Yes, with the MOZA ESX racing wheel fitted. The ESX is MOZA’s Xbox licensed wheel, and pairing it with this base makes the setup Xbox and PC compatible. Every other wheel in the MOZA range is PC only, so choose the ESX if console play matters to you. This holds for every MOZA wheelbase, not just this one. How much is 12Nm in practice? More than most drivers run at full strength. It is enough to make a long corner feel weighted and to make the loss of front grip obvious, with headroom left for the moments that need it. Most people run it some way below the ceiling and keep the rest as margin. Is 12Nm too much for a beginner? No, because strength is adjustable in MOZA Pit House. Start lower, raise it as your arms and your rig get used to it. The thing that catches people out is not the torque, it is mounting it to something that flexes. What do I need to mount it to? Four bolts into a rig, or an optional side bracket, or the optional table clamp. At 12Nm a rigid cockpit is the sensible answer. A flexing desk absorbs the detail you bought the base for, so the feedback arrives soft rather than sharp. Which pedals should I use with it? Any pedals you like, since they connect separately rather than through the base. Load cell pedals are the usual pairing at this torque level because the braking accuracy matches what the base can tell you. Our sim racing pedals range covers the options, and the CRP2 pedal bundle includes them. Can I use a wheel from another brand? Yes, through the MOZA Universal Hub Kit, which adapts a third party rim to the MOZA quick release. MOZA wheels fit directly with no adapter. What is the difference between the R12 and the R12 V2? The V2 carries a 21-bit encoder that the original did not, which resolves 2,097,152 steps per revolution and gives finer positional detail. How does it compare to the R9 V3? Same ecosystem, same wheels, same software. The R9 V3 produces 9Nm and the R12 V2 produces 12Nm. If you are already running a rigid rig and want the extra headroom, the R12 is the one. If you are on a desk or a lighter stand, the MOZA R9 V3 wheelbase is the more sensible buy. Does it get hot during long sessions? It is built against that. The rotor is wrapped in carbon fibre to move heat out of the motor, and intelligent temperature control manages the working range rather than letting performance drift as the session runs on. What software does it use? MOZA Pit House, on PC. Calibration, force feedback tuning, rotation limits, wheel settings and firmware updates all run through it. How long is the warranty? MOZA covers the wheelbase for 24 months and the power supply for 12 months. Gamer Gear Direct handles warranty support locally, and your rights under Australian Consumer Law apply in addition. .page_crafter_two_column_grid-gj2i8fR1BI { align-items: center; } .page_crafter_two_column_heading-gj2i8fR1BI { color: #000;
