He received a position in 1677 in the court chapel of Duke Ferdinand Albrecht I of Brunswick-Lüneburg. However already in 1678 he was arrested for unseemly behavior, but was able to escape. From 1683 until his death, he held the position of organist at the Sankt-Marien-Kirche in Flensburg. The twelve trio sonatas of the Giardino del piacere are Meister’s only surviving instrumental works. With these sonatas, the composer clearly placed himself in the tradition of D. Becker (Erster Theil zwey=stimmiger Sonaten, Hamburg 1674) and J. A. Reincken (Hortus Musicus, Hamburg 1687). However the classical order of movements, with an introductory sonata followed by four dance movements, is broken up and expanded in Meister through the use of menuet, ballo, and ciacona or passagaglia. The present edition is based on the Hamburg print of 1695 which is today in the holdings of the Bibliothèque nationale de France in Paris.
