Carbide Tipped dead centers are great for setting up work and for use in situations where a live center will not fit. Even though the tip is carbide and will not gall like HSS, car bide must be lubricated during turning operations or it will burn. Heavy grease will do in a pinch for for short runs but, a high-pressure grease, graphite grease, or Anti-seize, either nickel or aluminum based, is strongly recommended. Be careful with the Anti-seize because it will cover everything. Even using the right grease will not guarantee lack of damage to the carbide tip. Proceed carefully. Show more
