Maasai Mara Kenya 2015An open edition in all sizes Mud Monster was awarded as winner of the Mammals Category in 2017’s European Wildlife Photographer of the Year. Mud Monster is one of those moments rarely seen or photographed, a lioness painted fully in black mud save for her glowing golden eyes. A pride of lions had taken down a buffalo some time earlier and the ensuring struggle wound up in a mud hole. The angle of view together with annoying grass tufts meant getting an unimpeded line of sight on her was a challenge. And this was while impatiently waiting for her to show her clear eyes. The gold flare you see in the bottom right is the morning sun on grass. Open Edition prints Open prints have no limit to their print run and are not numbered or signed. A signature is reproduced just beneath the image area. Open prints cost less than limited editions but are identical in appearance and quality.
