The finished canvas, completed between 1852 and 1855, measures over sixteen feet wide, a scale almost without precedent for animal painting in nineteenth-century France.As the fourth and final equine acquisition in the current series, following MUGG-073 through MUGG-075, the work completes a sequence spanning Tang dynasty ceramic to French Romanticism.
