I am a Murai Stool. Three parts, one purpose... to make sitting feel natural. Simple in shape, but never ordinary. Curator's Notes The Murai Stool was designed in 1961 by Reiko Tanabe, who was born Murai, for Tendo Mokko. It uses three identical molded plywood sections and no visible hardware, creating a form that appears as a seamless whole. Its presence is modest until you sit down. Then you realize how well it fits, neither too large nor too small. At our gallery, it feels like it simply belongs. It functions as a stool, a side table, or even a surface on which to rest a book or cup. Some designs ask for attention... this one earns it.
