Incentive Create artwork that shows knowledge of terms used in music. -Line-Shape-Space-Colour Supplies Art paper A4 paper Crayons Water paints Paintbrush Craft glue Lesson 1 Look at musical scores and musical notation. Draw each musical symbol and label it correctly. (Examples are: crotchet, minim, quaver, coda, semibreve, rest etc.) This can be done in children’s workbooks or on a large chart for the classroom. 2 Cover entire A4 paper in different watercolours so that they are slightly blending into each other. Allow to dry and paste in the centre of the art paper. 3 When dry, use black crayon to draw staff (5 lines which music notes sit on). 4 Draw large notes and symbols along these lines. Ensure they are double thickness so they stand out. 5 Around the outside border (between the painted area and edge), write the names of music symbols. Use a different coloured crayon for each name and best to write it in capital letters. Keep writing these terms until entire border is filled. 6 Display on black background. Samples of children’s favourite music score (composition) can be displayed with artwork. It may be the score of the song they are learning for assembly or for a performance.
