When My Son Eric was originally published in 1979, the world was a much different place than it is today for gay men and lesbians. Although the Stonewall Riots had occurred ten yea rs before, support organizations such as Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) and the Gay Activist Alliance were slowly forming.
