French for “red dwarf”, Nain Rouge is a create whose appearance is said to presage misfortune in Detroit, Michigan. He was said to be seen before the 1967 Detroit riots, and each spring the city hosts a Marche du Nain Rouge in which the creature is chased out of the city and an effigy burned to banish the evil spirit from the city for another year.
