This piece is about my Poppy’s garden in Brisbane. He had an award-winning garden, full of the most incredible flowers. Everything was immaculately looked after, but the roses were always the most special. He grew them in every colour, reds, pinks, yellows, whites and you could smell them before you could see them. I was young then, and the garden felt enormous. The flowers towered over me. I remember looking up at them, feeling small and completely absorbed by it all. There was a big pond that attracted every kind of life, bugs skimming the surface, dragonflies hovering, skinks darting between rocks. The garden wasn’t just something to look at, it was something you stood inside. That sense of scale and wonder is what this painting holds. Layered marks, dense colour, and overlapping forms reflect that feeling of being surrounded of beauty pressing in from every direction. It isn’t a literal version of the garden, but the way it felt to be there: immersive, busy, and quietly magical. Every time I came over, my Poppy would give me mints before I left. It’s a small detail, but it’s the one that’s stayed with me. This piece reminds me of that garden, and of how it shaped the way I see simple magic the world. Each original artwork is one-of-a-kind and created in my Melbourne studio. The piece will be carefully packaged in a custom double-walled box to ensure safe delivery.
