Dating to 1922, the NAO badge marks aircrew who fly but aren't the pilot or navigator — in 1968 most were redesignated Naval Flight Officers, but NAO wings kept going for certain i ntelligence officers and meteorologists who qualify as aerial observers. The Marine Corps brought the wings back for its own aircrew in 2011 after a 15-year lapse, with one retired Marine colonel putting it simply: "If you're a flier, even if you're not at the controls, you should have a distinctive emblem you can wear."Available in different sizes and colors.
