As watercolourists we are generally working from lighter colours to darker colours. As a result learning what negative shape is and how to use it is very important. As with many of these techniques and tips, it is not complicated, and once you know what to look for you will start implementing it straight away, and actually you won't even think about it after a while. It is just a natural part of watercolour.
