Fine art pigment print on Rosaspina paper 300gsm Edition of 8 80 x 60cm (2nd edition) LUNAR MODULE Sheyne Tuffery Artist in Residence Carter Observatory , Wellington May 14 - August 2 2019 This work marks the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. What began as curiosity about why we haven’t returned evolved into awe at their achievement. It explores the astronauts’ spiritual journey leaving Earth’s atmosphere—how it might affect soul and mind. Apollo 8’s mission gave us the first photo of Earth from space, inspiring the late 1960s environmental movement by showing our planet as one. The pieces combine NASA images with my photos of Wellington’s South Coast, whose rocky surfaces resemble the moon. I enhance my photos digitally, layering them with NASA imagery.
