This mug and coaster set is crafted using the Japanese Nerikomi technique, where layers of differently pigmented clays are combined, patterned, and sliced to reveal intricate marbl ing that runs through the entire body of the piece. The clay itself carries the design — not a surface treatment — giving the set a depth and authenticity that only patterned‑clay work can achieve. The mug is wheel‑thrown and shaped with a sculptural loop handle that complements the organic flow of the marbled clay. The matching coaster is cut from the same patterned slab, creating a cohesive pairing with mirrored veining and tonal gradients. Both pieces are finished with a smooth, glossy surface that highlights the natural movement within the clay. Functional, tactile, and visually striking, this set elevates any coffee or tea ritual while showcasing the artistry of hand‑mixed, patterned clay.
