Fittonia are low-growing plants with small, pointed leaves and colorful veins in shades of white, pink, red, yellow, or green. They thrive in humid environments, making them perfec t for terrariums! They’re known for their dramatic “fainting” when soil dries out, but they perk back up within a day once they’re watered. Fittonia also produce unusual cone-like flowers. The genus was named in 1865 by botanist Eugène Coemans in honor of Sara and Elizabeth Fitton, sisters and authors of Conversations on Botany.
