Beginner's Guide to Delay Condoms Delay condoms contain a small amount of benzocaine or similar numbing agent on the inside that reduces sensitivity to extend duration. Here is what to know before first use: The numbing effect is on the inside only — the benzocaine coating is on the inner tip; it reduces sensation for the wearer only, not for the partner The effect takes 5–10 minutes to activate — put the condom on 5–10 minutes before you need it for maximum effect; do not wear for more than 30 minutes before activity Start with standard latex if sensitive — if you have not used a benzocaine product before, test a standard condom first; some users experience mild irritation from the numbing agent Do not use if partner is sensitive — although the agent is on the inside, if any transfers, it can reduce sensation for your partner; use a non-delay condom if this concerns you One condom per session; do not reuse — once the benzocaine coating has been activated and used, the protective and delay functions are spent Open carefully, roll fully down — standard technique applies: notch tear, pinch tip, roll down to the base For a detailed guide on choosing the right condom in Canada, see: Best Condoms for Sensitive Skin in Canada.
