Rooted in a tradition stretching back to Japanese Noh theatre and brought into the modern era by Copeau and Lecoq, the Neutral Mask is one of the most enduring tools in theatrical performance. Our version was developed with guidance from Cheryl Stapleton of Learning Through Theatre, who helped us realise our ever-popular Commedia Dell’ Arte set. Unlike our geometric masks, this design uses curves to form its shapes, giving it a calm, open quality that makes it a versatile tool for performance, costume, and creative exploration. As a half mask, it leaves the back of the head exposed and comes together quickly with minimal materials. All you need is a length of ribbon or elastic, and you are ready to go, making it a great option for first-time builders. Templates are scaled to fit adults and can be resized for children when printing. If you would like to use this mask as part of a curriculum, get in touch, and we will be happy to help.
