New Masters came out late in 1967 as a swift follow up to Matthew & Son. There were some artistic differences between Cat, who was starting to yearn for a simple acoustic sound, an d producer Mike Hurst, who favoured more lavish orchestral arrangements. Despite the album's modest commercial performance it did contain "The First Cut is the Deepest" which would go on to be a hit for a number of artists including P.P. Arnold, Rod Stewart, Sheryl Crow, and Keith Hampshire. Show more
