New modern lace knitting Workshop description: Learning how to read lace charts and practicing the skills of lace knitting. Discovering the history and culture surrounding traditional Estonian Haapsalu lace shawls/ Shetland lace shawls. Explore how lace is made. Consider how the traditional craft of lace knitting is being made modern. Knit a variety of lace stitches. You’ll be given a handout with photographs, charts and written instructions for each stitch. Practice makes perfect, so a bit of practice in class will help too before starting the pattern. Finishing and blocking a big lace shawl/scarf is always one of the most important things about knitting. Prerequisite Skills: Must know how to knit, purl, cast on, bind off and work basic increases & decreases.
