These were not just mountains. For Sheree, of Ngāti Maniapoto and Cook Island descent, they were the ancestral landmarks of her tīpuna’s world. For her husband, of Tūwharetoa, they were home — the sacred maunga at the very heart of his people’s territory.Together, they are Nga Maunga — the mountains. Ancient, volcanic, alive.
