HIGH PERFORMANCE IRIDIUM SPARK PLUGS NGK's IX series spark plugs incorporate features making them perfectly suited for modified and high-performance engines. The fine wire iridium center electrode, 6x denser than platinum and with an extremely high melting point, provides increased service life, improved ignitability and throttle response. The tapered ground electrode reduces quenching which would otherwise drain flame core energy away during ignition. The high grade pure alumina ceramic and 98% pure copper core enables the dissipation of large amounts of heat to prevent plug overheating and ensure reliable starting. The plug gaps are controlled with laser precision throughout the manufacturing process and should not be re-gapped unless absolutely necessary (due to the fragility of the center electrode). A trivalent metal plating prevents corrosion and provides anti-seizing properties (anti-seize is not required on the threads). Heat range selection is dependent on the operating conditions of the engine. Highly modified engines and elevated boost pressures will typically require a higher heat range (colder) plug. Racing or other running condition that involves sustained full throttle and high rpm operation will also necessitate a higher spark plug heat range. Running a plug with too high of a heat range may result in fouling while running one that does not have a high enough heat range can result in pre-ignition. Sold as a set of 4 spark plugs.
