Night Wings is part folk tale, part Northern Ontario. In this world, there is Molly who is partially sighted, her older brother Juri who takes great care to look after his sister, and their grandfather Ukki. The family is under strain, as winter is coming on, Ukki is developing health problems, and their father is away working the timber camps for weeks at a time. Juri 's response is to become overly protective of his younger sister while their grandfather, Ukki, encourages Molly's independence. Molly's inner world is revealed through an ongoing story/fable that she herself invents and, in some ways, parallels her own life. When Juri finds a wounded owl, he is determined to nurse the owl back to health all on his own. Molly discovers the owl and integrates the recovery of the owl into her inner "story." A series of events unfold that forces Juri to reveal his secret while putting both children at risk. The play integrates visual description into the dialogue, making it accessible to those with vision loss.
